Brookstreet at the Roundtable discussion
on bridging the Greek and British start-up ecosystems

The Embassy of the Hellenic Republic is organising a Roundtable discussion
on bridging the Greek and British start-up ecosystems.

“In recent years, Greece’s start-up ecosystem has seen a surge in the number of new ventures and the pace at which they are created. The market capitalisation of Greek-owned start-ups is estimated at 7 billion euros, from almost nothing eight years ago. To succeed in a highly competitive global market, Greek start-ups need to internationalise fast, they need to expand quickly and early across many countries. One of the biggest challenges for Greek entrepreneurs is operating in a relatively small market, far from large, mature start-up ecosystems like that of the UK.

The goal is to establish a support network for Greek start-ups and for the future ventures of Greek students in British Universities, by mobilising the Greek Diaspora of the UK. By helping Greek entrepreneurs connect with academia, researchers, investors and other entrepreneurs who have faced similar challenges, we want to empower them to commercialise their ideas, attract investment and expand in the British market and beyond. And by doing so, we hope to achieve a net brain-gain that will drive growth in Greece.”
