Greek Ambassador to Japan and formerly to the U.K. and the Permanent Representative of Greece to the International Maritime Organisation since 2016. He joined the Greek Diplomatic Service in 1983 and has served in posts in the U.S. (New York-United Nations and Los Angeles), Bulgaria, South Africa and Canada, as well in a wide range of jobs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Athens, among others as EU Internal Market Director, Counter-terrorism Coordinator and UN Head of Section. Before taking up his current role, Ambassador Tziras served as MFA’s Director General for EU and as Coordinator of Greece’s Presidency of the Council of the EU (2014). In 2002 he joined the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games Organizing Committee as General Manager of Personnel and Volunteers and member of the Games Operation Committee and Operations Centre of the ATHENS 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Ambassador Tziras is a Member of the Advisory Board of the International Diplomatic & Business Exchange in London (IDBE) and Member (Honorary) of the Board of the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival (LAGFF). He is also advisor to the President of the Committee GREECE2021. In 2008 he was awarded Grand Commander of the Order of the Phoenix by the President of the Hellenic Republic. He is married to Margarita Mavromichalis and they have two daughters.
